GM013 Relaunch

Project Overview

GM013 is an award winning studio for landscape architecture based in Berlin. With partly prominent projects and collaborations with well known architects it was my goal to give their work the stage it deserves.
Due to a limited budget I designed the website directly in Webflow. This way we could discuss design issues, animation and functionalities at "the living object". During the process of redesigning the website it quickly became pretty clear that the whole brand hab to undergo a redesign. This also included a redesign of the logo and creation of a new typeface.

Logo Redesign

The existing logo was pretty generic. So I tried to come up with something that looked modern and clean and represented their field of operation a little stronger. After a few initial drafts we came to a conclusion pretty quickly. I created a custom typeface for the logo and turned the "M" into a mountain with an underline beneath it to make it stand out even more and maybe represent some other part of nature like a river for example. Also the "M" didn't have to be presented so strong as a letter anymore, because the original founding member that letter had been standing for had left the studio. The number "013", which refers to the year of foundation, should visually be divided from the rest of the logo to not "pulpify" things with this rather complex company name that had already been established for years though.

Typeface and color

Images of course are one of the main assets to present work in landscape architecture. Many of these images were really stunning, so my goal was to give them the stage they deserve and reduce the "noise" of everything around. This way users should really get a look and feel of these extraordinary places and spaces the team of GM013 created.

Homepage

Since the homepage is the starting point for most users, the goal here was to give them a quick introduction to what GM013 is doing and an easy access to find out more. While featuring more than fifty projects in the work section we chose only seven projects to be featured on the homepage. These are not only the most impressive ones but also the ones showing what the team is capable of and what they have accomplished during the seven years of existence of the studio. In order to not overload users and give each project some room, I reduced their opacity and let them display in greyscale, only showing the title and the pictues fully opaque and in color on hover.

Project Pages

Instead of just showing some pictures of the projects with a little text I really wanted to tell their stories. Therefore I chose a asymmetrical magazine-style layout arranging the images alongside the referring text passages. This way we created a unique page for every project while still maintaining a consistent look.
